The cheese market in Alkmaar is a traditional Dutch cheese market. It takes place on the Waagplein, in front of the historic Weigh House (Waaggebouw).

The cheese market has been a tradition for more than four centuries. In the 18th century the market was held four days a week and lasted until 1 a.m. On average, 300 tonnes of cheese were traded per market day. Since 1939, Alkmaar has been the only city that still trades cheese in this traditional way.

Today the market is held every Friday morning from April to September and attracts 100,000 visitors a year. Explanations are given in several languages: Dutch, German, English, French and Spanish.
